On the 3rd of May 2023, the shooting of the historical high-end series “A WORLD DIVIDED”, a production of LOOKSfilm in co-production with IRIS Group, BESIDE Productions, MOMAKIN and HAKA Films, SWR, ARTE, ORF and CT, has begun.
The 6-part documentary drama series tells the stories of six historical figures from Germany, Israel, France, the Soviet Union and the USA. It follows the lives, longings, dreams and fears of these people, beginning with the Second World War and ending in the 1950s, the period when the world was divided into East and West.
The high-end series simultaneously interweaves personal dramas with major historical events and makes them tangible – it is radically subjective and transnational. Visually, the series succeeds in seamlessly assembling drama and original archive material.
“A WORLD DIVIDED” thus continues the format of the transnational documentary drama series of “14 – Diaries of the Great War” and “Clash of Futures 1918-1939”.
Lara Mandoki, Meriel Hinsching, Delia Maier and Max Wagner take on leading roles and the series furthermore features Florian Bartholomäi, Caroline Hartig, Ludwig Blochberger and David Rott.
The series is directed by Olga Chajdas from Poland (e.g. “Wataha”, “1983”) and Frank Devos from Belgium (e.g. “Undercover”). The scripts are written by head writer Jan Peter (“14 – Diaries of the Great War”, “Clash of Futures 1918-1939”) and co-writer Jasmin Wind.
Filming will continue in Poland, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium until the 5th of July 2023. Filming starts in Germany in the region of Baden-Württemberg on the 19th of May.
